Friday Funkfest. A recurring (almost weekly) flurry of quick hits, links, videos and thoughts. Clearly, the best way to waste time at work spend your lunch hour each and (almost) every Friday.
The Voices Outside My Head
- Do you think it’s possible that Big B is just setting himself up well to play an insanity card when his case goes to trial? It just seems like he’s living in an alternate reality from the rest of us.
- It’s good to know that if my kids ever become famous and then suffer an embarrassing moment of public humiliation due to their casual drug use, it won’t mess up my financial security
- I’m not the only one who feels overstimulated by the government. But politics isn’t completely discouraging.
- I’ve been thinking it might be nice to go Apple next time our family purchases computers. Apparently the manipulation of my weak self-concept has worked well.
- Against all odds, the internet has survived in spite of it’s failure to embrace the Dewey decimal system.
- Denny’s gave away free breakfast this week. Good marketing, but also a window into America’s true priorities.
The Voices Inside My Head
- I fancy myself to be the funniest blogger I know. Well, a friend from high school is giving me a run for my money. This morning she had three separate posts fraught with hilarity. And who doesn’t think dogs, babies and pregnant ladies are funny?
- This week I got an email from a youth pastor friend. Fred Phelps was going to be protesting a local high school that a lot of his kids go to, and he was sending out a letter to parents. The plan was to pray for the situation off-site and then have discussion in the evening, but to stay away from the actual protest. I thought it was a great plan. When people are divisive to the point that they are nothing more than a media-hungry caricature, you stay out of the situation. If a situation precludes you from having a conversation with grace and dignity, you think really hard about whether or not you should enter said conversation. I do have to say I like it when motorcycle groups create a blockade whenever Phelps protests military funerals. But most Phelps counter-attacks seem to be losing propositions.
- Wednesday. It’s a pretty big day.
